Los Angeles-based photographer/artist TAK S. ITOMI was raised in Japan. Tak moved to Los Angeles in 1999, and studied photography and cinematography at California State University, Northridge.
In 2004 while at university, in addition to winning photography awards from Asahi Newspaper and Konica Minolta, he won first prize in the SOGO Photo Contest, one of Japan’s largest photo contests. The prized photograph was titled “Freeway,” a daytime desert landscape shot between California and Nevada. The piece was described as “simple, strong, and happy.” This continues to be the common theme: Tak’s art is simple, strong, happy.
After graduating university, he moved back to Tokyo and started his career as a professional photographer. Early in his career, he had solo exhibitions in Japan named “Soul America.” He showed energetic American landscapes with contrast, light, and color. The show was successful and garnered invitations from institutions including University of Southern Queensland, Australia. For five years from 2007, he served as chef art director of LEAF, Linking East Asian Future, a student forum between China, Korea, and Japan.
In 2008, Tak moved back to Los Angeles and started his new career as a photographer for Discover Los Angeles and Modernica Inc. He also served as the vice president of LELA, Lantern of the East, Los Angeles, an organization for LA-based international artists. He has featured in juried national and international shows, such as Five Elements/ One World (2011) at the Municipal Art Gallery in Barnsdall Art Park, Hollywood, and the International Art Expo (2014) in Zaragoza, Spain. The experiences with―and feedback from―other international artists has given rise to even simpler, stronger, happier art.
In 2013, he joined the Rebun Island Project as a key coordinator and official photographer. This is an educational project to reinvigorate a small island of Japan.

TAK S. ITOMI／飯富崇生は、ロサンゼルスをベースに活躍する写真家／アーティスト。
１９８１年、山形県酒田市生まれ。
１９９９年、大学進学のためロサンゼルスへ。カリフォルニア州立大学で写真と映画を学ぶ。
２００４年の大学在学中に、日本の総合写真展にて当時最年少で大賞を受賞。大賞受賞作品「フリーウェイ」は、カリフォルニア州とネバダ州にまたがるモハビ砂漠で撮影された作品。シンプルな写真の中に、強烈な力強さとワクワクが入り混じる作品と評された。この「シンプル」「力強さ」「ワクワク」の３つが、TAKの作品全てに共通するテーマ。この年に、朝日新聞広告局長賞とコニカミノルタ賞も受賞。
大学卒業後、東京で写真家としてキャリアをスタート。この頃、個展「Soul America」シリーズを、銀座、品川、渋谷など都内数カ所で開催。アメリカのエネルギッシュな大地を、圧倒的なコントラストと光と色で表現したTAKの写真は、日本中にインパクトを与え、その後、日本だけではなく、オーストラリアのサザンクイーンズランド大学でも展示された。２００７年から５年間は、「LEAF－東アジア国際学生フォーラム」のアートプロデューサーとしても活動。これは日本、中国、韓国の学生が集まるフォーラムで、デザイン、写真、ポスター、印刷物などのアートに関する全てのディレクティングを行う。また、２００７年から１年間で、三鷹天命反転住宅にてギャラリープロジェクト「Respontes du Artututu」を行い、世界中のメディアに取り上げられた。
２００８年、活動の拠点をロサンゼルスへ。ディスカバーロサンゼルス（ロサンゼルス観光局）や、その他のアメリカ政府関連の観光局と契約、プロモーション用のポスター撮影や、冊子撮影、デザインなどを手がける。また、アメリカのファニチャーブランド「Modernica」ともフォトグラファー契約。現在も専属フォトグラファーとして広告の撮影などを行っている。
２０１０年、ロサンゼルスをベースに活動する国際芸術家団体「LELA」の副会長に就任。この頃より、アメリカ国内や世界の芸術展にも選出されるようになる。その中でも大きかったのが、２０１１年にハリウッドのバーンズデール美術館で開催された「Five elements/ One World (2011)」と、２０１４年にスペインの古都サラゴザで開催された「インターナショナル・アート・エキスポ」。こういった機会を通して世界中の芸術家と親交を重ねるうちに、TAKの作品は、よりシンプルで力強く、そしてよりワクワクするものへと進化していった。
２０１３年には新しいプロジェクト「礼文プロジェクト」に主要メンバー、そしてオフィシャルフォトグラファーとして参加。北海道礼文島との教育プログラムに関わることになる。
